Despite some inclement weather and soggy fields we've managed to get the 2012 Kirkland Pony Baseball season under way. And this weekend we were rewarded with some delightful weather and some terrific baseball, making those cold and wet days worth it.

You can keep up with what's happening here at our website. We have all the game schedules online; go to the "GAME SCHEDULES/SCORES" link in the left-hand column to select your team and see its schedule and results. As games are played and teams report their scores you'll see all the results and updated standings right here. If your team's scores aren't up-to-date talk to your coach -- or perhaps volunteer to do the score entering for your team.

Follow the links under "THE LINEUP" in the left-hand column to see the standings, recent scores and upcoming games for your division. And you can quickly see what games are coming up under the "ON DECK" heading on the right side of the page.

CLEARING UP RULES ON BATS

Pony Baseball released new rules regarding bats that has caused confusion among its members. You can read the exact wording at the Pony website (look for headline "2012 BASEBALL RULE CHANGES").

But here's the bottom line:

All 2 5/8"-diameter bats — EXCEPT those with a -3 length-to-weight ratio — are still OK.
All -3 bats MUST meet the BBCOR standard. This applies primarily to older players. Starting this year all non-wood high school bats must have the BBCOR stamp, no exceptions. The same will be true for Pony — but only if you are using a -3 bat.
All 2 3/4"-diameter bats are illegal.
Any 2 1/4"-diameter bats (unlikely to be used in our league) must be stamped with the following three pieces of information (1) “approved for play in PONY Baseball” (2) “BPF 1.15” and (3) the year the bat was manufactured.
